Good News Indian women’s football team to start its COTIF Cup 2019 campaign

The Indian women’s football team will face Villareal CF to kick off its campaign in the 2019 COTIF Cup in Valencia, Spain, today.

The team was supposed to face Equatorial Guinea earlier but AIFF d the revised fixture on its Twitter.

Speaking ahead of the match, head coach Maymol Rocky said that playing tough teams in the competition will put her team in good stead.

India had a three-week-long camp in New Delhi ahead of their sojourn to the Iberian Peninsula. Having registered a massive six-place rise to number 57 in the FIFA rankings, the Indian team will now be looking to build on this progress, with one eye on the World Cup Qualifiers next year.

Indian Women next will face Bolivia on Saturday.

Indian women’s football team beats Bolivia 3-1 in COTIF Cup

The Indian women’s senior national team defeated Bolivia 3-1 in their second match of the COTIF Cup football tournament in Spain.

A Ratanbala Devi brace and a Bala Devi goal led the Indian women to a comfortable win over the South American side.

After the 0-2 defeat against Spanish club side Villareal C F, the Indian women conceded an early goal in the second minute when Sweety Devi put the ball into her own net to give Bolivia the advantage.

COTIF Cup: Indian Women's Football Team Win Special Trophy

New Delhi: The Indian women's football team have impressed one and all with its performance in the COTIF Cup 2019 in Valencia (Spain) so much so that the tournament's president was moved to hand them a special third-placed trophy after the end of the tournament.

India played four matches in the COTIF Cup, out of which they won two (3-1 against Mauritania and 7-0 against Bolivia) and lost two (both 0-2 results against Villarreal and Spain U-19).

By dint of these results, the Indian eves got their best finish in the tournament -- the third spot, along with the Fair Play Award as well.
