Update Afghanistan vs Ireland ODI series to be played in Abu Dhabi after visa issue resolved

The Afghanistan national team has finally left for the UAE to play the three-match ODI series against Ireland starting on January 18.

Until hours before their departure for Abu Dhabi, there was no clarity on the venue of the matches. Just a day before they finally left for Abu Dhabi, Cricbuzz quoted Afghanistan Cricket Board media manager Hikmat Hasan as saying that the team was ready to leave for Oman to play the series.

Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium was meant to be the venue for the series initially, but there was some issue in the Afghanistan players getting their visas for the tour and later it was said that the series will be shifted to the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Muscat, Oman.

But in a last-minute decision, the Afghanistan national team were granted their visas and the series will now be played as planned.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Tuesday released a statement confirming that the series will be played in Abu Dhabi, and hours after that they posted photos of the national team just before their departure to the UAE.

The three ODIs, which are part of ICC's World Cup Super League, are scheduled to be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on January 18, 21 and 23.
