Coronavirus: 117 dead in US in a day; check worldwide COVID-19 fatalities

The United States has reported 117 new deaths due to coronavirus, 9,339 fresh cases, in one single day while the total death toll in the country so far has reached 419 with over 33,546 COVID-19 confirmed cases. Meanwhile, Italy also reported 651 new deaths, 5,560 new cases taking country's total confirmed COVID-19 toll to 59,138. The global confirmed cases toll currently stands at 337,469 and 14,647 fatalities worldwide. Meanwhile, India COVID-19 confirmed cases on Sunday soar to 395 with 7 over fatalities in the country.

Italy registers 59,138 coronavirus cases, 5,476 dead

The coronavirus epidemic continued to spread in locked-down Italy on Sunday with total cumulative number of infected cases reaching 59,138 and deaths reaching 5,476, according to the latest data released by the Civil Protection Department.

Speaking at a televised press conference, Civil Protection Department Chief Angelo Borrelli confirmed that 46,638 active infections have been recorded and 5,476 have died since the pandemic first broke out in northern Italy on February 21, Xinhua reported.

Mumbai: Man who recovered after testing COVID-19 positive, dies

A 68-year-old man in Mumbai, who was initially tested positive for COVD-19 but subsequently became negative, died on Sunday night in a hospital in Mumbai. The deceased was a Philippines national. This is the third death reported from Mumbai in connection with the coronavirus.

The man had initially tested positive for coronavirus and was under treatment at the civic-run Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai. He was later shifted to a private hospital after his test report came out negative, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in a statement. He died at the private hospital late Sunday night, it said.

COVID-19 Lockdown: PM Modi urges people to take it seriously, asks states to enforce

Amid lockdown situation in almost 80 districts in the country due to coronavirus outbreak, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to state governments to ensure that rules and regulations of the coronavirus lockdown are enforced as he noted that many people were not taking the measure seriously. Taking to Twitter, Modi said many people are still not taking the lockdown seriously. Please save yourself, save your family, follow the instructions seriously. Greater Noida society sealed after two test coronavirus positive

A prominent society in Greater Noida West was under immediate lockdown after two people tested COVID-19 positive on Monday. Noida Extension's Nirala Greenshire apartments was sealed after the news broke. No one will be allowed to enter or move out of society as it was under lockdown till March 25. With this, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in Noida (Gautam Budh Nagar district) has gone up to 8 while Uttar Pradesh's total of COVID-19 cases have surged to 27. On Sunday, the UP government announced lockdown in 16 districts including Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut, others in order to control coronavirus outbreak. India on Sunday observed Janata Curfew day as people remained indoors as the country ramp up its fight against the deadly virus.

Coronavirus crisis: Tamil Nadu announces lockdown, private sector employees asked to work from home

The government in Tamil Nadu on Monday followed suit of other states as it ordered a statewide lockdown to combat the spread of coronavirus. Announcing the lockdown, Chief Minister E Palanisamy also added that all private-sector employees have been advised to work from home.

The CM further said that the lockdown will come into force from 6 PM on Tuesday and will remain in effect till March 31. During the time period, Section 144 will be imposed in the state and only the sale of milk, vegetables, grocery, mutton, chicken and fish will be allowed, he said.

All domestic passenger flight operations suspended from March 24 midnight amid COVID-19 spread

All domestic passenger flight operations will be put on hold from March 24 midnight amid coronavirus outbreak. The Airlines have been asked to plan operations so as to land at their destination before 23:59 hours on 24/3/2020. The restrictions, however, shall not apply to cargo flights. Earlier in the day, The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a set of guidelines concerning social distancing for airlines and airport staffers. According to these rules, airport authorities have asked all airlines operating in domestic circuit to ensure passengers inside the aircraft are not seated next to each other and there remains a seat between two passengers. “Seat allocation at the time of check-in to be done in a manner to ensure that the seat between two passengers is kept empty,” the DGCA said in a circular.

COVID-19: All checkpoints at air, sea, land, rail, river ports shut

All integrated check posts (ICPs) at all airports, seaports, land ports, rail ports, and river ports are closed down to contain the spread COVID-19 outbreak in India. "In continuation of restrictions and advisories the undersigned is directed to covey the orders of Central government to stop all incoming passenger traffic on all 107 Immigration Check Posts which includes all Airport ICPs, all seaport ICPs, all land port ICPs, all rail port ICPs and all river port ICPs in view of the spread of COVID-10," read a government memorandum issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

WHO lauds India's coronavirus response; total positive cases rise to 468

Amid rise in novel coronavirus cases in India to 468, the World Health Organisation on Monday lauded the measures taken by the Indian government to contain the disease.
