Some good news for Italy: Coronavirus deaths fall for second day

Italy reported 601 new deaths from the coronavirus on Monday, posting a decline for a second day, as the country enters its third week of lockdown measures designed to keep the spread of the disease in check.

Total cases in the country rose to 63,927, civil protection officials said, while the hard-hit Lombardy region around Milan, which accounts for about half of the nation’s infections, registered a decrease in the number of hospitalized virus patients, top health official Giulio Gallera said Monday.

3 more people test COVID-19 positive in Tamil Nadu

Three more patients from Tamil Nadu tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, taking the total number of coronavirus-infected in the state to 12.

The latest patients include a 25-year-old man from Chennai, a 48-year-old man from Tiruppur and a 54-year-old man from Madurai. The men from Chennai and Tiruppur had both returned from London, United Kingdom. The man from Madurai, the 12th patient in the state, has no travel history.

54-year-old COVID-19 patient dies in Tamil Nadu; country's toll rises to 11

A 54-year-old man infected with coronavirus died at a hospital in Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Wednesday, the first death recorded in Tamil Nadu due to the contagion, state Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said. He also said the man had a medical history of prolonged illness with "uncontrolled diabetes".

"Despite our best efforts, the COVID-19 positive patient at MDU, Rajaji Hospital, passed away. He had a medical history of prolonged illness with steroid-dependent COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), uncontrolled diabetes with hypertension," the health minister tweeted.

COVID-19 cases cross 4 lakh-mark worldwide; these are 10 worst-hit countries

The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections worldwide has surged past the 4 lakh figure. The virus that initially emerged out of wet markets in Wuhan City in China has now become a global pandemic. To date, there have been 17,200 deaths worldwide. Travel restrictions, quarantines and lockdowns are in place in most countries across the globe. Sabarimala Temple festival cancelled in wake of 21-day lockdown

Sabarimala Temple festival which was scheduled to begin on March 29 has been canceled in the wake of the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Travancore DEvaswom Board (TDB) has also decided to cancel all festivals in other temples as a measure to not let COVID-19 spread through these places.

Coronavirus lockdown: All trains except goods suspended till April 14

Common man is worrying as all passenger trains including mail/express, premium, have been suspended amid coronavirus outbreak in the country after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday night imposed a nation-wide 21-day lockdown. Earlier trains were suspended till March 31 but after Modi's announcement, Indian Railway services have been deferred till April 14.

Italy registers 69,176 coronavirus cases, 743 new deaths

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 6,820 lives in locked down Italy as of Tuesday with the cumulative total number reaching 69,176, according to new data released by the Civil Protection Department.

Speaking at a televised press conference, Civil Protection Department Chief Angelo Borrelli said Italy reported 5,249 new cases of coronavirus and 743 new deaths on Tuesday and that 54,030 people are currently positive for the coronavirus, one month after the pandemic broke out in northern Italy on February 21, Xinhua reported.

5 new COVID-19 cases reported in Indore, India toll mounts to 562

Five new coronavirus positive cases have been reported in Madhya Pradesh. Of the five new COVID-19 cases, four are residents of Indore and one is from Ujjain, informed Health Officer Dr. Praveen Jadia. With five new cases, there are now 14 COVID-19 infected patients in the state. Total number of coronavirus positive cases in India have surged to 562 including 40 cured/discharged and 9 deaths, the Health Ministry informed on Wednesday. Earlier, six positive coronavirus cases were reported from Jabalpur and one each from Bhopal, Gwalior and Shivpuri. Curfew has also been imposed in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh in view of the coronavirus crisis.

COVID-19 in TAMIL NADU: 5 more test positive for coronavirus; tally goes up to 23

Five more persons, including four Indonesian nationals, tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday in Tamil Nadu, taking the total number of infected people in the state to 23. The state had reported 18 coronavirus-positive cases till Tuesday.

"Five new cases of COVID19 in TN. 4 Indonesian nationals and their travel guide from Chennai test positive...", State Health and Family Welfare Minister C Vijaya Baskar said on Twitter.
