In a horrific incident that pressed the panic button at the Alur Cricket Ground in Bengaluru, India Green batsman Priyam Garg was hit straight on the neck on day four of his side’s Duleep Trophy match against India Red on Sunday.
According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, Garg, who has been named captain of the India Under-23 squad to face Bangladesh Under-23s for five one-day matches in Raipur this month, was conscious but in pain as the physio immediately attended to the 18-year-old and applied an ice-pack to the injured area.
The incident occurred on the last ball of the 138th over of India Red’s innings which was bowled by Rahul Chahar. Garg, fielding at silly point, was in the line of the ball even after trying to get away from a back foot punch by Avesh Khan. Luckily, his helmet had a neck guard, which softened the impact.
