Diego Schwartzman casueel the biggest upset in the men's singles draw late on Tuesday night as he stunned 3rd seed Dominic Thiem in a five-set thriller to reach the French Open 2020 semi-finals.

Schwartzman outclassed and outlasted Thiem 7-6, 5-7, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and won 197 points in the match as opposed to 179 won by Thiem to clinch victory.

Meanwhile, Argentine qualifier Nadia Podoroska surprised everyone on Court Philippe Chatrier on Tuesday by defeating No.3 seed Elina Svitolina in straight sets.

With the 6-2, 6-4 win, she sailed through to the semi-finals and also created history by becoming the first qualifier to make it to the Roland Garros last four. She is also the first qualifier to make it to the semi-final of any major in 21 years.

Before the Roland Garros 2020 began, the 23-year-old had never won a main draw match at a Grand Slam event, beaten a Top 50 player or even recorded back-to-back victories on the WTA Tour.

After eight successive victories including three in qualifying the World No.131 will face either Iga Swiatek or Martina Trevisan, a fellow qualifier, standing between her and a place in Saturday’s final.

“It’s difficult for me to speak after the match, but thanks everyone for your support. I’m very, very happy,” she said.

“I try to play every kind of shot. We did a good job with my coaches during quarantine. I’ve been training a lot with all of my team and I think that’s why I’m here today.”
