olish teenager Iga Swiatek created history on Saturday as she became the first from her country to win a Major title after beating Sofia Kenin in straight sets in the French Open women's singles final at Roland Garros.

Iga Swiatek took just an hour and 24 minutes to beat Kenin 6-4 6-1 on Court Philippe Chatrier to become the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam title. This was Swiatek's second main draw appearance in Paris.

Swiatek is the first woman since Justine Henin in 2007 to clinch the title without conceding a set and only the second unseeded champion at Roland-Garros, after Jelena Ostapenko three years ago. Like Ostapenko, it also marked her first tour title.

With this victory, Swiatek also became the fourth-youngest women's singles champion at Roland Garros after Monica Seles (16), Arantxa Sanchez (17) and Steffi Graff (17).

This was Swiatek's second win over Kenin after their encounter in the 3rd round of the junior French Open which the former had won 6-4, 7-5.

This was also the first Slam final between two players 21-and-under since the 2008 Australian Open in which 20-year-old Maria Sharapova had defeated Ana Ivanovic.
