Update Injury worries deepen for India

India's injury count during the ongoing tour of Australia grew after two players - Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeaja - were hit while batting on the third day of the Sydney Test. Both players were subsequently taken for scans to determine the nature of the injury.

Pant was hit on the left elbow while attempting a pull off Pat Cummins and was visibly in a lot of pain. He batted on until his dismissal with a bandage on the elbow. Jadeja was hit on the left thumb by a short ball from Mitchell Starc, and he too continued batting with a bandaged hand.

Both players did not take the field when India came on to bowl, while Wriddhiman Saha donned the gloves in Pant's absence.

The two blows would be a cause for concern to an already dwindling squad that has already lost Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and KL Rahul to injuries over the course of the series, and possibly no replacements given the quarantine restriction in place. Following the Sydney Test, India's last assignment of the tour is set to be in Brisbane with the fourth and final Test starting on January 15.
