On the day when Virat Kohli spoke of the uncertainty and lack of clarity regarding the availability of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma for the Australia Tests, the BCCI has provided a definite update.

An official statement from the board says Ishant has been ruled out of the series, despite having recovered completely from his side strain. He is now said to be building up his workload to achieve Test match fitness, but the series Down Under will come too soon for him.

Rohit's participation however, still hangs in the balance as he continues his rehabilitation at the NCA and will next be assessed on December 11, following which the board will have clarity on his chances of making it to Australia.

Kohli also said that having Rohit and Ishant travelling to Australia from UAE after the IPL would've eased the recovery process and increased the chances of their participation in the series. But the BCCI has confirmed that Rohit had to return to Mumbai after the IPL in order to attend to his ailing father. Once his father began to recuperate, Rohit travelled to Bangalore for rehabilitation.

Natarajan picked as Saini's back-up

Tamil Nadu and Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler T Natarajan has been added as back-up to Navdeep Saini in India's ODI squad just a day ahead of the series opener in Sydney. Saini is said to have complained of back spasm.

Natarajan was initially picked in India's touring party as one of the four net bowlers, alongside Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kartik Tyagi and Ishan Porel, but was drafted in as Varun Chakravarthy's replacement in the T20I squad after the mystery spinner was ruled out due to a shoulder injury.
