West Indies have been dealt a blow ahead of the second Test starting on Friday at Basin Reserve in Wellington with pacer Kemar Roach and 'keeper-batsman Shane Dowrich being unavailable for the second Test against New Zealand. The duo will return home - Roach due to the death of his father and Dowrich for personal reasons - the Cricket West Indies selection panel announced on Tuesday (December 8).

The 22-year-old wicket-keeper-batsman, Joshua DaSilva, is set to make his debut, after being named Dowrich's replacement, while left-arm fast bowler Preston McSween will remain with the squad as cover. Dowrich suffered a hand injury in the first Test and didn't bat in either innings, while Roach returned 3-114 in the first Test.

Shimron Hetmyer is still under "concussion protocols" after a blow to his head in the second T20I, while Keemo Paul is "being treated for a groin injury".

"They are both being closely monitored by the team's medical staff and decisions on their availability will be made at a later date," the release stated.

West Indies trail the two-match series 0-1 after New Zealand comprehensively beat them by an innings and 134 runs in the first Test.

Squad for second Test: Jason Holder ©, Roston Chase, Jermaine Blackwood, Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua DaSilva, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Chemar Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Keemo Paul.
