Update South Asian Games: India open medal account

India opened its medal account at the 13th South Asian Games (SAG), with one gold, two silver and a bronze in a triathlon event at Pokhra in Nepal today.

Adarsha M N Sinimol gave India the first gold medal by winning the men's individual triathlon event while compatriot Bishworjit Srikhom took the silver in a 1-2 finish.

Thoudam Sorojini Devi and Mohan Pragnya added a silver and a bronze in the women's individual event.


India is being represented by 487 athletes in more than 15 disciplines.

13th South Asian Games: India wins 14 medals including 3 Gold on first day

India won 14 medals including 3 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze on the first day of 13th South Asian Games.

Adarsha M N Sinimol gave India the first gold medal by winning the men's individual triathlon event at Pokhara in Nepal on Monday. Sinimol compatriot Bishworjit Srikhom took the silver in a 1-2 finish. Thoudam Sorojini Devi and Mohan Pragnya added a silver and a bronze in the women's individual event.

In Taekwondo India clinched two gold, six silver and two bronze medals.

At the conclusion of day one host Nepal was on top winning 15 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze, India remained at number two while Sri Lanka was third with 3 gold, 7 silver and 14 bronze.

Indian athletes bag four medals in men's 1500m race

In Athletics, India continued their fine show at the 13th South Asian Games by adding four medals, including a gold in men's 1500 metres race at the Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu today.

The Indians bagged the gold and silver in the men's 1500 metres besides winning the silver and bronze in the women's 1500 metres event.

Ajay Kumar Saro won the gold in men's 1500 metres while Ajeet Kumar clinched the silver. The bronze went to Tanka Karki of Nepal.
Earlier in the day, India's Chanda clinched the silver medal in the women's 1500 metres event while compatriot Chitra Palakeez settled for the bronze. The gold in this event was bagged by Sri Lanka's Uda Kuburalage.

The Indians have so far accumulated 21 medals, including six gold, 11 silver and four bronze. The country is currently second in the medals tally behind hosts Nepal with 28 medals.

Indian athletes clinch 12 medals at 13th South Asian Games today

India clinched 12 medals including 2 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze in athletics at 13th South Asian Games in Nepal today.

In men's shot put Tajinder Pal Singh grabbed gold and Om Prakash Singh won silver.

In women's section, Abha Khatua clinched gold and Kachnar Chauba begged bronze.

In 4x100 meter relay, Indian men and women won silver each. In men's 400 meter hurdle Jabir Madari won silver and Santosh Kumar bronze.

In women's category Veerpal Kaur begged bronze.

In women's 5000-meter sprint Parul Chaudhary won silver medal and Priti Lamba got bronze.

In the men's category, Sunil Dawar clinches silver.

On the 6th day of games, India is on top with 136 medals comprising 64 gold, 47 silver and 25 bronze.

Bala Devi brace powers India to third straight gold

The Indian women’s team bagged its third consecutive gold medal at the ongoing South Asian Games after triumphing 2-0 over Nepal in the final in Pokhara, Nepal on Monday.

Bala Devi dictated the play from the start and handed her team the gold by netting a brace to ease India to a comfortable victory over the hosts. The 29-year-old Asian Footballer of the Year nominee ended as the top-scorer of the competition, netting five goals in four matches.

13th South Asian Games: India finish on top with 312 medals

On the final day of 13th South Asian Games in Nepal, India clinched 10 Gold, 2 Silver and one Bronze on Tuesday; India finished on top with 312 medals comprising 174 gold, 93 silver and 45 bronze.

Indian boxers continued their outstanding performance and won 6 gold, one silver and one bronze on Tuesday. In women’s Pinki Rani brought first gold in 51 kg category. She defeated Mala Ravi of Nepal in the final. In 57 kg Sonia Lather won gold by defeating her Sri Lankan opponent. Manju Bamboriya also clinched gold in 64 kg. She beat Nepal’s Punam Rawal. In men’s Sparsh Kumar brought gold. He defeated Mohd. Asif Syed of Pakistan in 52 kg. Varinder Singh lost his bout to Nepal’s Sanil Shahi in 60 kg.  Krishan Vikas clinched gold in 69 kg beating Gul Zaib of Pakistan. In 91 kg Narendra brought sixth Gold for the country. He defeated Ashish Duwadi in the final.
