Update Under-15 Asian Championships: Indian wrestlers win eight gold medals at Chinese Taipe

Indians grapplers continued their golden rush at the Under-15 Asian Wrestling Championships in Taichung, Chinese Taipei, clinching six gold medals yesterday. In freestyle, Akash performed brilliantly to beat Daiki Ogawa of Japan in the 48kg category.

In Greco-Roman category, Ankit Gulia defeated Korganov of Kazakhstan to win the gold in the 68kg while Chirag Dhalia clinched a gold by winning both his bouts in 75kg.

Three Indian girls - Saloni in 33kg, Babli in 36kg and Komal in 39kg also performed brilliantly to win gold medals for the country.

The Indian contingent now has a total of eight gold medals after beginning their campaign with a couple of gold on Friday.

India lead the team rankings list with 125 points, followed by Kazakhstan with 120.


India bag 28 medals including 13 gold in U-15 Asian Wrestling C’ships

India concluded its campaign at the Under-15 Asian Championships with 28 medals, including 13 gold, 14 silver and a bronze. The superb show by Indian grapplers continued as they won 5 gold on the last day at Taichung, China yesterday. Led by 2019 Cadet World Championships bronze medallist Deepak Chahal, the freestyle grapplers captured four gold while one gold came in the Greco-Roman category.

While Chahal won the gold in 75kg, Vishal in 62kg, Sagar Jaglan in 68kg and Jatin in 85kg were the others who finished on the top podium. Most impressive of the lot was Sagar. He was down 1-6 against Bexultanov Yerkhan of Kazakhstan before making a remarkable turnaround in the last 20 seconds to win the bout 7-6. Harsh remained unbeatable in 44 kg category of Greco Roman.

For the first time, India finished on top of the team rankings in freestyle category with 225 points as all 10 wrestlers finished on the podium. Kazakhstan finished second while Japan was third.
